Goals and Objectives
Mission Statement:
We the Catholic family of St. Barbara in Penn Township, have grown from a small mission in a rural mining community, to a large suburban parish. Each member is a gifted child of God with unique talents and needs.
Our mission is to proclaim Christ to all people.
We are committed to continuing our spiritual formation, living our Christian values, building community and responding to membership in our parish family and to celebrate the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we will pursue this Mission faithfully as we continue on our lifelong journey.
Be an Active Member of our Family:
St. Barbara Parish has over 2,600 families under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who together, carry out the Lord’s work. Each a child of God, bringing forth unique and special talents. working together toward common goals, united in spirit and in body, and in a direction rooted in the values of the parish family…
For 2010, the Pastoral Council has endeavored to focus its efforts on one simple goal: To promote and encourage Catholics to join St. Barbara’s worship activities on a regular basis.
To help achieve this goal, four key objectives were identified. These include:
- To develop a simple, encouraging slogan to promote the goal and to use it on all parish communications
- Result: “St Barbara Church - your presence makes all the difference.”
- To re-invigorate the greeter program
- Result: As of November, 2010, this program has been formally re-established with many volunteers identified to participate
- To improve the image of St. Barbara’s through the services of a communications coordinator
- Result: Rheba Salac was appointed as the St. Barbara’s communication coordinator. She has been actively involved in engaging local media to publicize happenings at St. Barbara’s.
- To establish a young adult program at St. Barbara’s (target age group – 19 to 39)
- Result: In progress as of November, 2010. Efforts are being coordinated with the Diocese. Expect to start up this program in early 2011.
