The Preschool/Kindergarten program is offered during both the 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass and uses a scriptural lectionary based program. The theme of each session is based upon that Sunday’s reading, which will allow parents to be better able to interact and reinforce the message of the Gospel at home. We schedule certain Sundays off so the children can experience the Sunday Eucharist with their family.
Preschool is open to children who are age four by September 1 of the current school year.
Kindergarten is open to children who are age five by September 1 of the current school year.
In the Elementary/Upper Elementary program we use the textbook series entitled “Faith First” along with seasonal/liturgical themes. During the course of the year we offer parent/child or family seasonal sessions by grade level. These sessions give parents/families the opportunity to work together.
Elementary/Upper Elementary (Grades 1 – 5)
The catechetical program for grades 1 & 2 and 3, 4 & 5 is offered on alternating Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. By accommodating all first and second graders on one Saturday and all third, fourth and fifth graders on another Saturday helps to enrich our program, consolidate resources and create less duplication.
Each session begins with the children gathering in church for opening prayer. Sessions include two lesson/study periods along with two other periods of music/prayer and audiovisual. Our priests are also involved in each of the Saturday morning sessions.
Classes for elementary/upper elementary grades 1-5 are held on alternating Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Each session begins with children gathering in church for an opening prayer experience.
The home based program uses the same “Faith First” program. Parents have the option of using a “At Home Family Guide” that corresponds to their child’s textbook. It is an excellent approach to provide a family learning and faith sharing process, which respects the scheduled demands made on today’s families. This program allows parents to gather with their children at the same time and provide age appropriate learning. The reason this program works with children of different ages together is because the basic content of each grade level textbook is connected. The parent guide is easy to use and demands no specific teaching skills nor does it demand an extensive knowledge of faith. Throughout the year the home based children are invited to attend special grade level events.
Vacation Bible School is a week long program for children grades K-6. The week is filled with great fun, Bible adventures, music, crafts, recreation and snacks. Bible school is usually held in early June; check the Formation calendar for the exact date. Registration packets are mailed in early spring. Junior and Senior high youth are encouraged to volunteer. A preschool/nursery is available for children of our volunteer staff.
Whenever classes have to be cancelled our policy is to try to air the cancellation on KDKA. We will try to make this announcement at least one hour before class begins. If you think you may have missed the announcement or want to be sure of a cancellation, you can call the Formation office (724-744-4885).
How do I register my child/youth for Faith Formation?
Registration packets are mailed to all parishioners with children of appropriate age (Preschool-Grade 12) in late July. Forms are available in the Formation office and also online at the parish website.
How do I enroll my child for Sacramental Preparation?
A separate letter is sent to registered parents of children who are eligible to receive Sacraments explaining the details and schedule of the Sacramental Prep program. If you child is eligible and you do not receive a letter, please contact the Formation office (724-744-4885).
Do I need to fill out a separate registration form for each child/youth?
