Studies show that people leave the Church for a variety of reasons. Some of the reasons given are: Marriage and divorce issues; anger at God or the Church; a lack of sensitivity by a respresentative of the Church; too many changes, too fast; too few changes, too slow; a gradual drifting away; lack of time; pressure from a spouse; fear of confession.
Who are these people who leave the Church? In general, they are good people. Law abiding, tax-paying, child-loving, decent citizens. They were baptized in the Catholic Church and practiced their faith for a period of time, now they no longer do.
Statistics show that 40% of these people would like to come back, but never got around to it. If this is you, please call (724) 744-7474 or email () Mary Ellen Stilwell, in confidence.
During Lent of 2009, St. Barbara parish will offer a four-week series designed for Catholics who have been away from the Church and are seeking answers to questions about returning. Check this space later in the year for specific dates, times and topics.
