St. Jean Baptiste - our sister Parish in Haiti

The St. Barbara Parish 'Haiti Twinning Mission' focuses on developing a personal relationship between the parishes of St. Barbara in Harrison City, Pennsylvania and St. Jean Baptiste Parish in Montrouis, Haiti. The parishes work to develop a mutually enriching relationship of sharing, solidarity and understanding.  In addition, St. Barbara Parish raises funds and sends resources to our sister parish to help with various special projects, especially the St. Jean Baptiste School.

Fr. Antoine Charles was pastor of St. Jean Baptiste parish when St.Barbara parish began its Haiti project.  Fr. Antoine has since been transferred and is now pastor of the new parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help of Florence near St. Marc, Haiti.  After some discussion, the Haiti Committee concluded that our relationship was with and remains with the parishioners of St. Jean Baptiste parish. Haiti Committee members have since gone to Haiti to visit the new pastor, Fr. Georges Cadet, and he has also come to the United States to visit the parishioners here at St. Barbara parish.

The third Sunday of each month is considered “Haiti Sunday” at St. Barbara.  St. Barbara parishioners say special prayers and take up a collection for our Haiti sister parish on “Haiti Sunday”.  In return, St. Jean Baptiste parishioners are asked to pray for St. Barbara parishioners.
