The Food Bank work is accomplished with the help of many dedicated volunteers who help with the sorting, boxing, shelving, and distribution of the various food and daily need items received from the many donors. The St Barbara Community Food Bank could not exist if it were not for the many most generous, sharing and giving people of the Penn Township area who share their food and money with the anonymous needy of our area.
A person needs only a desire to help the less fortunate needy families of the Penn Township area. A food order pick-up appointment is made when the person calls the St Barbara parish office, Monday thru Friday, 8AM-9AM, 1PM-2PM or 5PM-6 PM. Emergency situations will be addressed on an individual basis.
You can positively affect others by doing and showing in a positive way that others do care and want to help the needy and those through no fault of their own, find themselves needing temporary or longer term assistance with their living expenses.
Approximately 4 - 6 hours per week preparing and distributing food orders and picking up supplies. Approximately 2 hours per month on Food Bank Sunday to pick up, sort, and shelve the donated food and miscellaneous items. Approximately 30 hours per year for sharing and caring Christmas food order preparation and distribution. Approximately 6 - 8 hours per year per person sorting and shelving food items received from the various Penn Township churches, schools, and Boy Scout troops, voters, local clubs and organizations. Approximately 1 1/2 hours every Wednesday and Saturday morning to pick up dated baked goods from the local Giant eagle and deliver them to 2 local nursing homes.
