Marriage Preparation:
Information:
In the Diocese of Greensburg, engaged couples are required to attend a marriage preparation class. Here at St. Barbara Parish, the couples have three optional mean to satisfy this requirement.
• Day for the Engaged – This program is presented yearly in January or February. The program was adapted from the preparation book called “Evenings for the Engaged.” The program is presented by trained couples in a one day format which begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 4:00 PM. The presentations are held in the St. Barbara Center. Some of the six topics covered are: communication, the Sacrament of Matrimony and building a strong marriage. Once the topics are presented, the engaged couples are given questions to answer privately between the two of them and then there is a group discussion on other questions.
• For Better For Ever – Sponsor Couple Program - The program consists of a series of preparation sessions held in the home of a married couple who is trained in the marriage ministry by the Diocese of Greensburg. It provides a more personal approach, addressing the unique needs and issues of the engaged couple in a one-on-one fashion. Sessions are scheduled at the convenience of the engaged and sponsor couples. There are four scheduled sessions that allow reflective exercises, private couple sharing and time for discussion with the Sponsor Couple. Some of the topics addressed are: lifestyle planning, faith, financing and the Sacrament of Matrimony.
• Engaged Encounter – This option provides time for the engaged couple to concentrate on building and deepening their relationship and commitment to each other. Engaged Encounter is held on a weekend, which begins on a Friday evening and ends on Sunday afternoon. The weekend is presented by two trained married couples and a priest. Family life, faith, goals and the Sacrament of Matrimony are just a few of the topics covered.
