As Martha and Mary opened their home to the Lord, we the Ministry of Martha and Mary open our home of St. Barbara Church. Our mission is to provide a ministry of service, spirituality and fellowship to women of all generations in St. Barbara and the Harrison City area. We will strive to build the community of Christ by working together and involving the diverse talents of our women. Meetings are held semi-monthly (6 times annually), with special events planned throughout the year. If you wish to explore membership, please talk with any member or officer.
Our members have achieved work and life knowledge, skills and training in Nursing and Healthcare, Military Service, Home Economics, Child Care, Networking, Secretarial, Purchasing, Beautician, Human Resources, Graphic Arts, Photography, Sports, Computer Technology, Music, Writing, Administrative and Business, Non-Profits, the Vocations of Single Life, Marriage and Homemaking, and much more.
Martha and Mary is a stewardship of spirit, with temporal and spiritual works, prayer and networking to benefit the churched and unchurched in our community and beyond, including other ministries. All that is required is a pure heart and willingness to work. In the Gospel story of Martha and Mary, Lazarus' sister Mary illustrates prayer life; their sister Martha illustrates work life in the Lord, and most of us seem to spend more time with work than prayer, so the entirety of our day becomes a prayer. We invite you to choose Life over Death, Community over Isolation, Fun over Drudgery, Bold over Mild, Apostolic Leadership over Apathy, and Now over Later.
Our Goals are presentation of Practical and Spiritual Tools which enable the operation of a household, foster the care and rearing of children, and build relationship between Husband and Wife; Health Education for Women, Men and Children; Kindness, Comfort and Hospitality in a culture of Life, because "my people perish for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6) in what has become a culture of Death (Pope John Paul II). "Choose Life," (Deut. 30:15) Support of our Parish of St. Barbara, an integral part of Life. Vocations and devotion to the Blessed Mother in education to girls and young women through Marian Groups and Sodality.
