Catholic Scouting in Action at St. Barbara’s

Boy Scouts of AmericaSt. Barbara’s parish is a proud sponsor of the Boy Scouts of America and Catholic scouting. Our Parish charters both a Boy Scout Troop for boys ages 11 through 18, and a Cub Scout Pack for boys in grades 1-5. Additionally, St. Barbara’s supports all Catholic Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of our parish from the many troops and packs in our area with an annual Boy Scout Sunday Mass, coordination of scout religious emblem programs, and promotion of Diocesan Catholic scouting events. Our parish is active with the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting for Boys which plans several Catholic scouting events throughout the year across the Diocese of Greensburg

Boy Scout Troop 236

Boy Scout Troop 236, chartered by St. Barbara’s Church, is focused around teaching our young men ages 11 through 18 the values and morals they need to become outstanding citizens in our community and nation.

We have meetings most Thursday nights from 7 pm to 8:30 pm in the Social Hall at St. Barbara's Roman Catholic Church located in Harrison City, PA. The meetings are balanced with skills training, leadership building, merit badges, rank advancement and structured games. Our belief is that information is best received over time and that Scouting is a lifelong endeavor. Our troop plans a monthly activity for our scouts to participate in, such as weekend camping trips, ski trips, a week of summer camp, a week of backpacking on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, and much more.

Contact Information for Troop 236: Visit our web site at http://www.troop236.com or contact Scoutmaster Tom Crock at (724) 468-5750 or chpltsm236@windstream.net.

Cub Scout Pack 236

Cub Scout Pack 236, chartered by St. Barbara’s Church, is a program for boys in grades 1-5 that emphasizes the aims of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Boys are divided by grade into smaller groups called dens which meet weekly and then all the boys meet once a month at a monthly pack meeting.

Activities include the annual Pinewood Derby, a Blue and Gold Banquet, and many outings. Boys work on their rank requirements as follows: 1st grade Tigers, 2nd grade Wolf, 3rd grade Bear, and 4th and 5th grade Webelos. After Webelos, boys transition into a Boy Scout troop of their choosing.

Contact Information for Pack 236: Contact the Cubmaster Andy Deutsch at (724) 744-0734 or adeutsch@medrad.com.
