 Foundations of Faith

Foundations of Faith is an intergenerational approach to faith formation. It allows an opportunity for us to work with families, and to provide the tools and knowledge necessary for parents to serve as the primary educators, in faith, for their children.

In this process, learning and formation engages both children and adults.  For families, this means that children are not the only ones learning.  However, this process is not limited only to families with children. All parishioners are invited to participate.

Foundations of Faith is our primary model of formation. It is expected that all families with children in preschool (age 4) to fifth grade will participate.  Another option does exist. Families with children in kindergarten through fifth grade may choose a home based option.  No family will be turned away due to financial hardship.

If you have questions regarding Foundations of Faith, please view the 2018-19 information listed below; contact Joan Duncan by email at jduncan@dioceseofgreensburg.org; or call the Parish Office at 724-744-7474.

 Prayer: The Our Father

Dear St. Barbara Family,

I write to invite your participation in the 2019-20 Faith Formation at St. Barbara Parish, Foundations of Faith. Foundations of Faith allows an opportunity for us to work with families, and to provide the tools and knowledge necessary for parents to serve as the primary educators, in the faith, for their children.

In this process learning and formation engages both children and adults. For families this means that children are not isolated from their parents.  But this process is not limited only to families. All parishioners are invited to utilize these opportunities for their own ongoing formation.

The information listed below provides an outline of each monthly session; a listing of all the dates of the sessions; and the topics that will be presented this year. This year, we will be offering two dates to accommodate all that wish to participate. When registering, please indicate which date your family will be attending so that appropriate planning may be done.

Middle school or high school youth can join us for a service inspired portion of Foundations of Faith. Monthly, teens will engage in works of service so we may continue to build up the Body of Christ. Each month will offer something different and the youth of our parish are encouraged to attend all sessions or simply one as their schedule allows.

As a reminder, those youth currently in middle school, need to be actively involved in EDGE, our middle school youth ministry this year, as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. High school youth are not finished with Formation either! They need to continue to be actively involved in LIFE, our high school youth ministry.

Foundations of Faith is our primary model of formation here at St. Barbara. While participation is open to all parishioners, it is expected that all families with children from Grades Pre K-5 will participate. However, another option does exist. Families with children in Grades K-5 may choose a home-based option. If this option is preferred, please indicate on the separate enclosed registration form. Those families will be provided a textbook and lesson guidelines.

Please return the registration form and fee to the Parish Office by August 23, 2019. Any questions or concerns can be directed to Joan Duncan by email at jduncan@dioceseofgreensburg.org or by phone at 724-744-7474.

God Bless You,
Joan Duncan, Director of Faith Formation
