KYP2023: EAT. SLEEP. SERVE. PRAY.

For close to twenty years, the parishioners of St. Barbara have collected items, raised funds, traveled monthly with supplies, and forged relationships with the people of Beattyville, Kentucky.

This summer, the youth of St. Barbara Parish and neighboring parish friends will once again go one step further and spend a week serving our Kentucky Project friends. KYP2023 will have teens working on building projects such as handicap accessibility, constructing decks, painting, and more.

It will be a week dedicated to Eating. Sleeping. Serving. and Praying.

The Details

When is it?
We will be departing from St. Barbara Church on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11:00AM and returning on Friday, June 30, 2023 around 6:00PM.

Who can attend?
The Kentucky Youth Project is for those currently in 8th grade (as of January 1, 2023) through college students as well as selected chaperones. Space is limited so chaperones will also be limited. Chaperones should contact Caitlin Craig before registering. All chaperones must be in compliance with Diocesan Child Protection Policies.

Where will we stay?
Lodging will be in cabins within ten minutes of our main service site, Good Shepherd Church in Campton, KY. While the cabin will not be as glamorous as last year, it is still a beautiful place to stay. The cabin is smaller than last year sleeping only 24 teens/college age alumni and 6 selected chaperones. Additional parents may attend, but will be housed at the local Red River Gorge Motel (additional cost may apply).

How much will it cost and what does it include?
The total cost of the week for teens and selected chaperones will be $650. This cost will include housing, travel, food, and all supplies for the service work. The hope is that each St. Barbara attendee would fundraise at least half of the trip through fundraisers sponsored by St. Barbara Youth Ministry or if from another parish, through their own parish. Remaining funds would be the responsibility of the participant. Francis Fund scholarship may be available. This will offset only a portion of the trip.

How will we get there?
Adult chaperones will be transporting participants in personal vehicles as well as some rental vehicles. All adult chaperones will be required to complete all Child Protection Mandates.

How do I register?
Registration is now open. Spaces are limited to 24 teens. Those attending must commit to being present for at least 2 youth ministry fundraisers including Pub Trivia Night (February 4) and the Rummage Sale (June 2-4).

A non-refundable deposit of $50 is due with registration.
