 Confirmation Preparation 2020-21

Confirmation brings to completion the grace received through Baptism. By this sacrament the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched by the strength of the Holy Spirit. This gift conforms believers more fully to Christ and strengthens them to bear witness to Christ for the building up of his body in faith and love.

The celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation for our 2020-21 St. Barbara, Ascension and Sacred Heart Parish eighth grade class will be Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at 7:00 PM in the church. Rehearsal will be the day prior, Monday, May 3 at 7:00 PM in the church. (These dates are subject to change as our diocese awaits the appointment of a new bishop).

How do we begin the preparation process for the Sacrament of Confirmation?
Glad you asked. If you have not received a letter and packet of information in the mail, please reach out to Joan Duncan in the Parish Office at 724-744-7474.

Are you a member of Youth Ministry? Are you attending Edge?
All teens in sixth through twelfth grade are highly encouraged to participate in Youth Ministry here at St. Barbara Parish. Edge is specifically designed for our middle school teens. Learn more or reach out to Elisa Esasky, director of  youth and young adult ministry, with questions.

Corporal Works of Mercy | Family Service Project

As part of the preparation for the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation, we are asking each family to incorporate the Works of Mercy into some service for the parish and community. Throughout the next few months, as a family, develop a way of showing how you can live out the Works of Mercy and serve our parish and community at large.

On Sunday, April 11, 2020, beginning with the 10:30 AM Mass, we will have a celebration of the work you and your family have done. At that celebration, we would like each family to bring with them a poster depicting how they fulfilled these service opportunities. Light refreshments will be served at this gathering.

The poster may be no larger than 3' x 4'. It can include photographs of your family performing the service project or hand drawn accounts of what was done. Please ensure your family name is visible on the front of the poster.

Past projects have included, but are not limited to, visits to the Ronald McDonald House, 5K runs/walks; chemo kits for hospital patients; and sponsored sports clinics.

We highly encourage you to select a service work that inspires you and revolves around your passions in life. The sky is the limit.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Joan Duncan, director of faith formation, in the Parish Office at 724-744-7474 or email
